We need to talk about TED
A recent editorial on global maters by Benjamin Bratton in the Guardian, “We need to talk about TED,” (12/30/13): http://www.theguardian.com/profile/benjamin-bratton. This is an outstanding critique of the whole TED phenomenon. In his viewpoint I find vindication for my (similar) reactions to current (over-)hyping of infographics and collaboration – as if these two things alone were strong enough ideas to change everything… I agree with Bratton that we should be very resistant to over-popularization of knowledge and thinking, but the greater danger is “placebo innovation”. Curiously, Bratton’s piece is from an invited TEDx talk he gave in San Diego…
